Email Marketing Asset File Format Cheat Sheet
We created this guide to help you understand the different file types included in your email marketing design package. You may already be familiar with some of them, while others might be completely new, and that is perfectly okay. Inside, we break down what each file type is, why it matters for your email campaigns, and exactly where and how you can use it to achieve the best results.
Working Files
Adobe file formats are the original design files we create when building
your email templates and campaign assets. While they are developed within Adobe programs, they can often be opened in other compatible software as well. These files ensure your email designs remain fully editable and ready for future updates or refinements. Any designer or creative you work with will understand how to use these files, so you typically will not need to access or edit them yourself.
Portable Document Format (.pdf)
This is a fixed layout format that keeps your email designs, graphics, and typography exactly as intended, no matter what device they are viewed on. We use this format when sharing final design proofs or campaign mockups so you can review and approve them with confidence. It ensures everything appears polished, secure, and consistent across screens.
Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg)
This is a vector format that uses mathematical precision, allowing graphics to scale without losing quality. We use it for logos, icons, and key design elements in your email marketing so they stay sharp and professional across all screen sizes. It is typically smaller and more efficient than PNG or JPEG files, making it ideal for responsive email design and high performing campaigns.
Joint Photographic Experts Group (.jpg)
This is a compressed image format that is ideal for photography and detailed visuals used in your email campaigns. It supports rich colors while keeping file sizes small, which helps your emails load quickly and perform better. Because it is widely compatible across email clients and devices, we use it to ensure your images display smoothly and consistently for every subscriber.
Portable Network Graphics (.png)
This is a lossless image format that preserves full quality and supports
transparency. We use it in your email marketing designs when sharp detail is essential or when elements such as logos and graphics need transparent backgrounds. It ensures your visuals remain crisp and professional across all devices without sacrificing clarity
Encapsulated Postscript (.eps)
This is a vector file format we use to create high quality graphics that can scale to any size without losing resolution. It is ideal for logos, icons, and custom illustrations used within your email templates and supporting brand assets. By working in this format, we ensure your visuals stay sharp, consistent, and aligned with your brand wherever they are used.
RGB
RGB is used for all digital applications such as email campaigns, websites, and social media, which is why we design your email marketing assets in this format for accurate on screen color display.
Which To Use & When?
Most brands today operate primarily in the digital space, especially when it
comes to email marketing and online communication. Very few rely
heavily on printed materials anymore. Because of this, we design your
email assets in digital color formats that are optimized for screens and
inbox performance. Here are a few helpful tips to guide you when using the
different file types included in your package.
Digital
-
We provide .pdf files for email signature designs, brand guides, and supporting campaign documentation.
-
We provide .eps and .png files for logos and brand elements used across
your email templates and marketing assets. -
We provide .eps and .ai files for larger digital placements and scalable campaign visuals.
-
We provide .eps and .png files for email graphics and smaller digital formats
such as social media content.
Note: Although you may be used to sending your logo or graphics for email
campaigns as JPG files, those versions typically include a white background
that can limit flexibility in layout and styling. When working with us on
email marketing design, we recommend always providing logos and brand
assets as PNG files. We use PNGs because they support transparent
backgrounds, which allows us to place your branding cleanly across
different sections, colors, and templates. Even if the background appears
white when previewing on your screen, the file can still be transparent.
